Record Attendance at the Kosten Foundation’s Kick It 5K Raises over $150,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Research and Patient Support

With over 2,500 people, the Kick It 5K Reports Great Success in the Fight to End Pancreatic Center

Memphis, Tenn., April 6, 2017– Over 2,500 runners, walkers, volunteers,
pancreatic cancer survivors, and supporters enjoyed wonderful weather and raised more than $150,000 at the Kosten Foundation’s Seventh Annual Kick It 5K at Shelby Farms Park Conservancy on Sunday, April 2, 2017.

“The 2017 Kosten Foundation Kick It 5K was a tremendous success as we raised over $150,000 with donations still coming in and saw 2,500 people in the park supporting this wonderful
event and cause,” said Alan Kosten, Chairman of the Herb Kosten Pancreatic Cancer Charitable Fund. “We are so thankful for everyone that donated their time, talents, and funds and to those that came out to run, walk, volunteer, and support our fight against
pancreatic cancer.”

Money raised from the Kick It 5K and other Kosten Foundation events helps fund pancreatic cancer research at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. The Memphis-based
organization has raised over $1,000,000 for pancreatic cancer research over the years and assists with programs such as the Kosten Foundation’s Pancreatic Cancer Support Group, which meets the second Saturday of every month at the Cordova Public Library.

The Kick It 5K began with a solemn reading of the names of those who lost their lives to pancreatic cancer in the past year by Steven Shelton, pastor of Faith Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in Bartlett, followed by a celebration ceremony to recognize and honor survivors. Over 1,630 5K runners and one-mile walkers enjoyed beautiful weather as they trekked through scenic Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. At the finish line, guests enjoyed delicious
Corky’s BBQ, live entertainment, a fun photo booth, and an awards ceremony for the top placing runners.

About the Kosten Foundation:
The Kosten Foundation is a collaborative effort between the Herb Kosten Family and the University
of Tennessee, Memphis. Inspired by the death of Mr. Kosten due to pancreatic disease and the lack of community support and research progress toward this disease, his family initiated a grass-roots fundraising effort in the Memphis community. Founded in 2003,
shortly after Herb’s death, the Herb Kosten Pancreatic Cancer Charitable Fund was established by his family in order to pay tribute to a man who battled cancer with dignity and courage. Their programs include a yearly symposium headlined by nationally recognized
leaders in the field of pancreatic cancer, as well as fellowship training for future pancreatic cancer surgeons. They also host a monthly support group meeting, providing hope and help for patients and their families. Annual tennis tournaments, beginning in
2004, were held for several years and the first annual Kick It 5K run/walk was held in 2011. The event has grown significantly over the years, with more than 2,500 attendees in 2017.
