Promise Academy is currently hiring Multi-Classroom Leaders at a higher-than-normal compensation package. Leaders hope this compensation package will spark a serious conversation about teacher pay

Memphis, Tenn., May 8, 2023 – Memphis-based Promise Academy Charter Schools is offering a compensation package for teachers to earn more than $100,000 annually in pay and benefits to work within their schools as Multi-Classroom Leaders. To be considered for these positions, interested educators must have a Tennessee Teaching License and should apply by May 19, 2023 to be considered. “We are excited to offer new and seasoned teachers at Promise Academy a compensation package that will allow them to make more than $100,000 a year. Teachers with zero experience can start out making $70,000 and earn bonuses and benefits that push them over the $100,000 mark,” said Dr. Patrick Washington, Executive Director of Promise Academy. “Teachers are needed in the classrooms, but they shouldn’t have to settle for salaries that barely pay the bills. With this compensation package, we want to spark a conversation about how valuable teachers are to our children, families, and our community and compensating them fairly based on that value.”

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the average public school teacher’s salary in 2019-20 was $63,645. In Tennessee, the average pay for classroom teachers during that same time period was $52,596.

Nearly 40% of all education support professionals working full-time in K-12 schools earn less than $25,000 annually. With this new compensation package, teachers who work with Promise Academy could make nearly double the average pay of teachers in Tennessee.

The charter schools are hiring Multi-Classroom Leaders, a role tailored to teachers with a record of high-growth student learning and leadership opportunities. This position allows teachers to:

• Model effective teaching practices
• Use student data to inform instruction
• Collaborate with the Network Academic Team to teach and promote Excellence in Teaching

The base salary for Multi-Classroom Leaders starts at $70,000 annually with up to $10,000 in performance bonuses that could earn teachers more than $100,000 a year. Educators must have a Tennessee Teaching License to apply for this position.
