cityCURRENT Announces Nashville Expansion

MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 6, 2018 – cityCURRENT, a privately-funded organization comprised of 80+ local businesses focused on moments and media along with philanthropy and volunteerism to “power the GOOD” and provide a positive influence in the Mid-South community announced today at their Signature Breakfast event featuring NFL Hall of Famer, Tim Brown, that they are expanding operations to Nashville, Tennessee.

“It has been an absolute pleasure watching cityCURRENT evolve and grow over the last 13 years and seeing how the organization can provide so many positive experiences to make a difference in Memphis. We’re excited to share our unique model with Nashville and view this as an opportunity to make an even larger impact and to help more people and organizations,” said Johnny Pitts, Co-CEO of Lipscomb & Pitts Insurance, the founding sponsor of cityCURRENT. “We look forward to becoming an integral part of the Nashville community just as we have here in Memphis.”

cityCURRENT Nashville will start with a lineup of popular events, like the getCONNECTED Lunch Series, which includes Executive Lunches and Women in Business and Philanthropy Lunches, Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Distributions and the flagship Signature Breakfast Series events. Three Signature Breakfast Series events are scheduled throughout the remainder of 2018 – May, September, and November – and five are scheduled for next year. Signature Breakfast Series events feature a national guest speaker and bring together prominent business and community leaders. The goal is to provide a fast-paced, information-packed morning filled with valuable content, positive news, philanthropy, and engagement opportunities; and to bring a cross-section of leaders from all sides of the city – business, nonprofit, education, faith, and government – together to foster teamwork and collaboration designed to move the city forward.

Jeremy Park, CEO of cityCURRENT introduced the cityCURRENT Nashville team at the cityCURRENT Signature Breakfast this morning. Steve Minucci will serve as Nashville Market President, Eileen Cooke will serve as Nashville Market Event Coordinator, and Joslyn Hebda will serve as Nashville Market Coordinator.

cityCURRENT is comprised of more than 100 corporate partners, including some of the world’s largest employers like FedEx, AutoZone, Cummins Inc. and Smith & Nephew, along with mid-size and smaller companies. In each city, these corporate partners are exclusive in their core business categories and come together to do as much good as possible. This model enables the organization to fully underwrite the costs of all efforts, so that it can invite citizens to participate in a wide variety of free events and programs, to focus on philanthropy and helping nonprofits, and also to produce an array of positive-oriented media. The partners truly function as a team, physically serving in the community together, sharing ideas, resources, and referrals, as well. cityCURRENT does offer some partner-only programs and events, as well as the free community events, which are open to the public.

“Working together with our corporate partners and so many other remarkable business and community leaders, we have been able to create something special in Memphis that has allowed us to do remarkable things, like giving a wounded Veteran Hero a mortgage-free home, serve more than 3,500 kids with hundreds of volunteers washing the kids’ feet and giving them new shoes and socks with our Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Distributions, and helping to mobilize more than 15,000 volunteers to pick up litter across the Mid-South, and that’s just the start,“ said Jeremy Park, cityCURRENT CEO. “We are proud to be known as a catalyst for GOOD in our community by hosting around 180 events each year from enrichment seminars and workshops to our receptions and Signature Breakfast Series to nonprofit tours and volunteering events. We also financially support nonprofits through our Charity Spotlights and produce our own positive media programs including television and radio shows, a ChangeMakers podcast, books and columns. We look forward to offering these opportunities to power the GOOD, as we say, in the Nashville area.”

Overall, cityCURRENT is intently focused on serving the community and bringing organizations and citizens together to make a difference. In some capacity, cityCURRENT works with just about every business, nonprofit, school, civic group, church, government entity, and organization in the Mid-South. The name, cityCURRENT, is itself a calling for people to become the electric CURRENT powering GOOD in the city; and as such, the organization is dedicated to bringing everyone together, in order to provide enrichment events, foster collaboration and teamwork, champion positives, and empower giving back.

“We are humbled by this amazing opportunity to bring the cityCURRENT model, programs, and culture to Nashville. I’ve seen their efforts and impact firsthand and we have already been working with the Memphis team to get everything ready for this moment. Our first cityCURRENT Signature Breakfast will be May 10 and we will be adding media and philanthropy to an exclusive portfolio of events, like the Memphis model,” said Steve Minucci, cityCURRENT Nashville Market President. “We also plan to bring their Charity Spotlights, nonprofit tours, volunteer days such as the Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Distribution, Executive Lunches, workshops, seminars, and more to Nashville. It won’t happen overnight, but we’ve seen the incredible impact cityCURRENT has made in the Mid-South, and so we’re very excited about what the future holds!”

While remaining fully committed to their hometown of Memphis, the Memphis location will be the corporate office for cityCURRENT, LLC. Jeremy Park, current President of cityCURRENT Memphis will transition his title to CEO over both markets, Communications Director Allison Carson will transition to Director of Operations and Communications, and Communications Manager Andrew Bartolotta will become Director of Digital Media.
